Among the valued services provided by UNIC Nigeria is the Reference Library, where the public has access to a comprehensive collection of United Nations publications, reports and official records. The Centre also maintains United Nations film and video collections that are available on loan to local broadcasters, non-governmental organizations and educational institutions.

Equipped with modern communications technology, such as CD-ROMs, the Internet and e-mail, UNIC Nigeria can also obtain documentation electronically from United Nations Headquarters. Visitors often rely on the personalized service and guidance provided by UNIC Reference Library Assistant.

Opening Hours
The Library operates for Reference only from 8.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday except on public holidays.

Our Collection
UNIC library contains books, periodicals, bulletins, posters and video cassettes. It also has publications of the United Nations, its agencies, programmes and funds in print and electronic formats. The collection includes information in the following subject areas: peacekeeping, disarmament, human rights, economic and social affairs, health, industrial development, trade and development, human development, environment, regional development, education, food and agriculture, international law, population, water, economic and financial development.

Among the most recent works produced locally with the initiative and/or active participation of the Centre are:

  • the first media handbook on reporting HIV/AIDS and related issues in Nigeria;
  • Partnership for Development, a joint publication of United Nations System journal;
  • United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) document for Nigeria.

Our Internet facilities enable users to browse UN websites, download and print findings of research and enquiries.
